Here are some of our top tips for starting to create your new, dream kitchen!

When you’re at the beginning of the kitchen design process, the choice can seem overwhelming. The important thing is to take it at your own pace and choose a designer who will understand your needs and interpret them into an effortless space that suits your home, your style, your requirements, and your budget!

To make the process easier, we’ve put together our top tips for starting a kitchen renovation project.

First of all, streamline your existing kitchen. One of the biggest complaints people have with their kitchens is a lack of storage space and often this can be solved by going through drawers and cupboards, assessing the contents and donating, selling, or throwing away what isn’t needed.

Dispose of anything that’s out of date, donate any kitchen gadgets you never use, and consider selling any larger appliances you don’t want. Culling possessions in this way will not only make it easier to transfer things into your new kitchen, as you won’t be moving items you don’t need, but it will also give you a better understanding of how you currently use your space and what you need your new kitchen to be able to do for you.

After streamlining, you can get down to some serious planning! Think about the ways your current kitchen works well and the areas that can be improved. If it’s something you’ve been living with for years, you may not be able to think about it objectively, so don’t be afraid to ask friends and family for their honest input.

Remember to consider the people besides yourself who will be using the room. If you have young children who are budding bakers, consider accommodating them with a lower worksurface or by building in a breakfast bar where they can do their homework while you keep an eye on them.

If you can’t decide how you want the kitchen to operate, perhaps you will find it easier to decide on the style you love and work from there, so visit our kitchen showrooms for inspiration. Our premises in Kingsthorpe, Northampton you will find gorgeous contemporary and traditional kitchens, including bespoke, handmade furniture from our Nicholas Bell range; sleek, glamorous German designs from SieMatic; and beautiful British craftsmanship from Mackintosh.

Whether you have some design ideas already or are at a loss for where to start, at some point you’re going to need to consult with a designer. When you meet with them, bring dimensions of the space, photographs of your existing kitchen, and any inspiration images, so that they can get a sense of your style. Our team of experienced, innovative, and creative designers are on hand to help. Pop in store to see us or give us a call at our Northampton showroom on 01604 777520.
