Add warmth to your home with a fire or stove

Add warmth to your home with a fire or stove

As the darker nights draw in, now’s the ideal time to start thinking about making those cosy autumn days perfect. How? With a fire or stove showstopper of course!
At Bell of Northampton, we offer three fuel types: wood, gas and electric. Our fire and stove consultant, Ryan Howe, talks you though these options to help ensure you make the right choice.

Electric fires & stoves

Electric is a big part of what we do and it’s also a leading choice within the industry. But what’s so great about electric? These products are ideal for media units, particularly in new-build properties that don’t need the heat but want the look.
Available brands includes the likes of Gazco, Evonic and Solus and OER.

Gas fires & stoves

Offering convenience, style, functionality and maximum heat at the same time, are our gas options. Whether you prefer the sleek look of a built-in gas fire or the classic charm of a cast iron stove, brands including Bellfires, Gazco and Rais offer style and functionality.
And the great news is that a new Gazco gas display is coming to Bell of Northampton very soon. So watch this space!

Wood burning fires & stoves

Here at Bell, we stock some of the best brands in the industry. These include Stovax, Rais, Charnwood, Jotul, Scan and ACR.
Although electric and gas take the lead in popularity, wood burning stoves are still a great choice. They may have come in for past criticism due to their lack of eco credibility but technology has changed. As of January 2022, all stoves have to meet new regulations (Eco 2022). These stipulate that, amongst others, new stringent maximum emission limits for seasonal efficiency, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides are met. This is to support government incentives in improving the UK’s overall air quality. You can read more about it here.
‘Zenzoric’ technology in new stoves from Jotul and Scan help ensure wood is being burnt at the optimum level. They also advise when’s the right time to put another log on your fire. How fab is that?

Top tips for burning wood on your stove

Burning the correct fuel (wood) is key. Burning ‘wet wood’ or wood that has not dried out correctly will not only be damaging to your stove and flue/liner, but it also won’t burn efficiently! If you plan on sourcing your own wood, ensure it’s seasoned correctly. By seasoning, we mean drying it out fully. Sometimes this can take up to a year if you’re planning on using freshly cut wood. The alternative? Buy kiln dried logs!
Natural firelighters and soft wood for kindling are two additional points to consider for your fire. The great thing is that all of these components are available to purchase from Bell!
